Toronto – A professor and former Dean of the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management was named as the number one management thinker in the world by Thinkers50, the premier ranking of global business thinkers.
Prof. Roger Martin, the former Dean of the Rotman School from 1998 to 2012, received the honour during an awards gala in London, UK last night. A second Rotman faculty member, Prof. Richard Florida placed 19th on the list of the top fifty management thinkers globally.
Two fellows of the School’s Martin Prosperity Institute also made the list with Adam Grant, a professor at the Wharton School placing 8th and author Nilofer Merchant placing 22nd.
Prof. Martin is the Institute Director of the Martin Prosperity Institute at the Rotman School where he holds the Premier’s Chair in Productivity and Competitiveness. He is the author of eleven books including Getting Beyond Better (with Sally Osberg, Harvard Business Review Press, 2015), and Playing to Win (with AG Lafley, Harvard Business Review Press, 2013), which won a best business book award from Thinkers50 in 2013. His most recent book, Creating Great Choices, co-authored by Rotman Adjunct Prof. Jennifer Riel, was published by Harvard Business Review Press in September. Prof. Martin was also the co-winner with Sally Osberg of the Thinkers50 social enterprise award in 2015.
Richard Florida is University Professor, Cities Director of the Martin Prosperity Institute and Professor of Business and Creativity at the Rotman School. His research provides unique, data-driven insight into the social, economic and demographic factors that drive the 21st century world economy. He is the co-founder and editor-at-large of The Atlantic’s CityLab. He is the author of the best-selling The Rise of the Creative Class. His most recent book, The New Urban Crisis, was published by Basic Books earlier this year.
