Lauren Jones and Mark Stabile have been looking at what has happened to the size of the middle class in Canada.

The New York Times recently documented that the American middle class is shrinking. Defined as those families earning between $35,000 and $100,000 a year, the Times shows a steady decline since 1967, with a smaller but significant decline over the past ten to fifteen years. In addition, since 2000, the proportion of families with incomes below $35,000 has increased and the proportion with incomes above $100,000 has declined (although the average incomes for the families earning above $100,000 has increased a lot).
