Fixing the Game Named a Best Business Book 2011

The wonderful folks at 800-CEO-READ have named Fixing the Gamethe best Finance & Economics book of 2011. I have to say, it’s gratifying to receive an award from one of the most influential book sellers out there! And, I’m especially pleased to be honored alongside my Harvard classmate and great friend, Jeanne Liedtka, for her very deserving book Designing for Growth(named best Management book). You can see the full list of winners, including Jim Collins, Eric Ries and Daniel Yergin here.

Fixing the Game in the News

On Sunday, December 4th, I’ll be appearing on Fox & Friends on Fox News Channel to talk about Fixing the Game. I’ll be on at 7:45, so tune in early!

In other news, I’m delighted to share that Fixing the Game has already made two year-end best book lists. It was featured on Strategy + Business magazine’s Best Business Books of 2011 list, and Australia Financial Review included it in their list of Best Brainfood of 2011.

And last but not least, I wanted to point out this review of Fixingby Steve Denning at Forbes.com. Steve does an oustanding job of articulating the main themes of the book and offers his own thoughtful perspective. It’s a great read.

Fixing the Game London Launch

The London launch of my book, Fixing the Game:  Bubbles, Crashes and What Capitalism can Learn from the NFL is coming up on September 20.  It will feature a panel with Economist columnist Arian Woolridge, Financial Times Business Life Editor Ravi Mattu, and Stefan Stern of Edelman (6-8 pm, Andaz London Hotel, 40 Liverpool Street). You can sign up for it at the Rotman School Events Page.

Upcoming Events

I thought I’d draw your attention to a few upcoming Rotman School events I’m quite excited about:

On Tuesday, March 29, we’re hosting a panel discussion on Artistry Unleashed at the Savoy Hotel in London, England. Panelists include myself, Hilary Austen (author of the new book, Artistry Unleashed), Tyler Brulé (Editor-in-Chief of Monocle), Sue Siddall (Managing Director of IDEO‘s London office) and Derek Weil (a partner at Pentagram).

On April 27, we’re in Boston for another panel of thought leaders on artistry, this one featuring Hilary and I, plus Michael Beirut, (Partner, Pentagram), Dan Buchner (Vice President – Innovation and Design, Continuum) and Colin Raney (Design Director, IDEO) .

And soon, we’ll hold a series of talks on my new book, Fixing the Game. On May 5, Adi Ignatius (Editor-in-Chief, Harvard Business Review) and I will discuss the book  in Toronto. Then, we take the show on the road, with an events in New York (June 7, where we’ll include Chrystia Freeland, Editor at Large – Reuters, in the conversation). Events in Singapore, London and elsewhere are also in the planning stages.

Integrative Thinking for Executives

Update: The dates for 2011 are April 14-16 and October 20-22.

I’m often asked how people can learn more about integrative thinking and how they can develop their own integrative thinking abilities, short of coming to Rotman for an MBA. The short answer is this: Rotman’s Integrative Thinking Program. The program, which I developed with my colleague Jennifer Riel, is a three-day primer on integrative thinking. The next two offerings are April 22-24 and October 28-30.

You can learn more about our approach by watching our short video, How to Solve Wicked Problems Using Integrative Thinking.
